How to Export a GPX File from Strava
Step-by-step guide to downloading your activity as a GPX file from Strava, so you can overlay your stats on any photo with Stamptivity.
Strava makes it easy to export any of your activities as a GPX file. Once you have the file, you can upload it to Stamptivity to overlay your stats — distance, speed, elevation, heart rate, and more — directly onto any photo.
What You'll Need
- A Strava account (free or paid)
- The activity you want to export
- A desktop or laptop browser (the Strava mobile app does not support GPX export)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open the Activity on Strava
Go to strava.com and sign in. Click on the activity you want to use — a ride, run, hike, or any GPS-tracked workout.
2. Click the Three-Dot Menu
On the activity page, look for the ⋯ (three dots) button in the top-right corner of the activity header. Click it to open the options menu.
3. Select "Export GPX"
From the dropdown menu, click Export GPX. Strava will generate the file and your browser will download it automatically.
The file will be named something like activity_1234567890.gpx.
4. Upload to Stamptivity
Head over to Stamptivity and drop your .gpx file onto the upload area — or click to browse for it. Stamptivity will read your activity data instantly, right in your browser. No upload to any server, no account needed.
Tips
- Zwift and indoor activities may not have GPS coordinates, so the map widget won't render. Stats like duration and distance will still work if recorded.
- Bulk export: Strava's data export (under Account Settings → My Account → Download or Delete Your Data) gives you all activities as
.fit.gzfiles, not GPX. The per-activity export above is the easiest way to get a single GPX. - If an activity was originally imported from a
.fitfile, the GPX export should still contain all the same stats.
Supported Activity Types
Stamptivity works with any GPX file from Strava — cycling, running, hiking, walking, and more. The app automatically detects the activity type and shows the relevant stats.
